Name: Komeda’s Coffee Nishi-Shinsaibashi
Ratings and Comments
Exterior – N/A
Since the restaurant is located on an upper floor of a building, there isn’t much to say about its exterior.
Interior – 3/5
The interior feels like a classic breakfast diner. I appreciate that the tables are well-spaced, providing plenty of room to sit comfortably.
Menu/Price – 3/5
The menu offers a decent variety of options, which I’d describe as an American/Japanese fusion. For lunch, you’ll find items like burgers, sandwiches, and a spaghetti dish (which is only available after 11:30 AM).
The main draw here is the breakfast special: if you order a cup of coffee, breakfast is free. Check the menu photo for details on what the special includes. Keep in mind, though, that the coffee costs 640 yen, so it’s best to take full advantage of the breakfast that comes with it. The special is only available before 11 AM. If you order the breakfast on its own, I believe it costs 500 yen.
The most popular item at Komeda’s is their round-top bread (toast). It’s so well-loved that you can even buy fresh loaves to take home.
Drinks – 3.5/5
Given that “coffee” is in the name of the restaurant, I had to give it a try. It’s no Blue Bottle or Bongen Coffee in Ginza, but it was still very good—nice and hot!
Food – 3/5
I ordered the breakfast special, customized as follows:
- Round-top bread (toast)
- A (Staple hard-boiled egg)
- Strawberry jam
- Extras: Yogurt made with 100% Hokkaido milk (topped with honey) and a mini salad
The bread was good and enjoyable, but I don’t think it quite lived up to the hype. It was fluffy and toasted well, but I’ve had better slices of bread/toast elsewhere. The hard-boiled egg was cooked properly and peeled easily, while the strawberry jam was simple but tasty.
As for the extras, the yogurt was mostly plain aside from the honey, which I liked. I mainly ordered it for a little gut health boost, but it was decent overall. The mini salad was fine, but I wouldn’t order it again.
Staff – 3.5/5
During my visit, there was only one server covering the entire restaurant and cashier duties. He was very nice and efficient, but I felt bad for him—he was running around trying to keep up. That’s more of a management issue than anything else.
Restroom – N/A
I didn’t have a chance to check the restroom.
Conclusion – 3/5
Overall, it was an enjoyable and affordable meal. While I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit regularly, if I’m in the mood for a light breakfast in a comfortable atmosphere, I’d definitely consider it.
