Written on: 1/26/2025

Name: Hatoya Asakusa

Google Maps Link: Hatoya Asakusa

Restaurant Website: Hatoya Instagram

Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM Daily

Finding the entrance:
Very easy—look for the white Noren curtains hanging over the entrance. There’s a good chance you’ll see a line outside, so that’s another indicator.

Closest Train Station(s):
Asakusa – Subway (Exit 7)

About the restaurant:
From their Instagram: A Japanese tea stand renovated in an old house behind Sumida Park. You can enjoy Japanese tea, lattes, and sweets made using carefully selected tea from Kyoto.

Reservations:
Unavailable.

Walk-ins:
This place is quite popular, and since each drink is carefully crafted, there’s a chance you’ll need to wait. If the small counter line is full, they have a sign on the sidewalk showing where the line continues. It moves faster than you might expect, so don’t let the line discourage you.

Accepted Forms of Payment:
Cash or credit card.

Menu:
Take a look at my menu photo—most people opt for the iced matcha latte here. However, you’ll see there are three different options, each at a different price point. The cheapest uses lower-quality matcha, and the more expensive ones increase in quality, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the most expensive one will be your favorite. Each option has a slightly different flavor profile, so be sure to read the descriptions on the menu before ordering. Also, the ice cream here is fantastic (subjective, but I stand by it)!
