Name: Chibachan Shibuya Store
Ratings and Comments
Exterior – N/A
It’s not fair to rate this restaurant based on the exterior, as it’s located on the 4th floor of a larger building (as is common with many restaurants in Tokyo/Japan).
Interior – 3/5
I have to uphold the integrity of my rating system here, but don’t let a 3 deter you. While it’s not super clean, and the layout is a bit quirky, it’s still a functional and enjoyable space.
Menu/Price – 3.5/5
The menu is a little busy, but they do offer an English option, which can sometimes be hard to find in Japan. With plenty of items to choose from, it helps if you’re a bit picky about your food. Pricing is very reasonable!
Drinks – 3/5
I tried the draft beer (Sapporo) and Hakkaisan sake. Nothing special, but the prices were very reasonable.
Food – 3.5/5
I tried several dishes: edamame, radish salad, chicken & green onion skewers, pork belly skewers, agedashi (fried tofu in a soupy broth), and chicken karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken). Everything was good, but the chicken karaage was exceptional. I would return just for that. It was perfectly seasoned, crunchy, and juicy, and it didn’t need any sauce at all. If you look around, you’ll see almost every table ordering it, so trust me and get it.
Staff – 4/5
Service was excellent and attentive. Each table has a service call button, a common feature in Japanese restaurants. Just press it, and a server will assist you.
Restroom – 3/5
Good, but not great.
Conclusion – 3.5/5
I don’t go to an Izakaya expecting amazing food or unique drinks. I go for the experience, the fun atmosphere, and the lively energy. Chibachan Shibuya offers very good prices, and the chicken karaage is definitely worth coming back for. This has become one of my go-to izakayas.
