About the Restaurant:
Chibachan is a chain Izakaya offering an excellent variety of food and drinks at very reasonable prices. The only other location I am aware of is in Shinjuku.

Reservations:
While reservations aren’t necessary unless you have a party of more than 4, you can make one via the restaurant’s website if you prefer.
Notes on Making a Reservation:

  • You’ll need to create an account with their reservation service.
  • See my page on getting around inputting a Japanese name and phone number here
  • After submitting your request, you’ll get an email to confirm your reservation, followed by an official confirmation email.
  • You can cancel by clicking a link in your confirmation email, which will allow you to log in and complete the cancellation process.

Walk-ins:
You shouldn’t have trouble walking in unless it’s a Friday or Saturday night, in which case there may be a short wait.

Accepted Forms of Payment:
Cash or credit card.

Special Notes:

Smoking Room: There’s a smoking room inside, but you can request seating away from it. I didn’t notice any smell/smoke during my visit.

Here are a couple of mandatory things to keep in mind at this restaurant (rules and fees of this nature are found at almost every izakaya in Japan):

  • Table Charge: There’s a typical fee, which sometimes comes with a small starter. At this restaurant, the fee is 473 JPY per person, and you will receive a small dish of bean sprouts.
  • Minimum Drink Order: Most Izakayas have a compulsory drink order per person. However, there are usually good non-alcoholic options available, like tea or soda.
  • Late-Night Fee: A 10% late-night fee is added to orders after 10 PM, as noted in the fine print at the bottom of the menu. While it’s not ideal, it’s better than other Izakayas that don’t disclose fees until the bill arrives.
